In a world dominated by selfies, do we really need someone to fill up that void in our heart ?

Now, I only do annual posts about love, right around Valentines and because I am just a plain old narcissist, I always just end up making fun of it.

But going back to Sex and the City and watching it all over again, it got me thinking -
Has love become way too mainstream with social media ?

Think about it, what are the first few smileys you see on any app - the happy face, sad face, the crying for no reason face and a red heart followed by the broken heart, of course.

I have this cousin - every time he gets a new girl friend, he posts these stupid duck faced selfies with her and they are all over my Facebook feed. But it doesn't just end there, every time he breaks up with a girl he makes sure all traces of his ex are deleted from all of his social media accounts.

And I just don't get the second part - does he really think by deleting every trace of her from his instagram account, he can remove her completely from her life too? In fact nowadays, the first thing anybody does when they have a serious fall down with someone is delete them from their Facebook account. No wait, they first post a very cryptic message explaining how sad they are and stuff and AFTER that they block them.

And oh god, who can forget the last seen hiding stuff on Whatsapp. I had a friend in college who broke up with her boyfriend almost every month, and every time she broke up with him, the first thing she would do is hide her last seen.

I wish I could go back to the 90s when there were no caller IDs, and you could just call up and prank people without letting them know who you were. And there was no way you could block a number ( Was there ? )

But you know the worst ones - the newly minted couples who are too just to eager to share all their cutesy pictures and snap stories. Seriously, your pictures make me puke. Get over it, GET OVER IT NOW.

Love is not something you can define in hashtags. When you actually need someone, it won't be those who like your pictures on Instagram, they will be the ones who have loved you even before you created that stupid Instagram account. (Or the ones who don't know how to put proper Instagram hashtags. You know who you are)
